Disturbed by the rising cases of drug abuse in the society, the National Youth Coordinator, Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Nanto Dami, has called on government at all levels to declare state of emergency on the distribution of hard drugs in Nigeria.
He made the call while teaching the youth on becoming god-fearing and law abiding citizens at the just concluded youth convention organised by COCIN RCC Kadagama, which covers Gwallameji, Yelwa, Rafin Zurfi and Sabon Kaura local church councils.
The convention, which took place at the church premises in Yelwa area of Bauchi state, had in attendance several youth from different denominations where all the participants were lectured on the dangers of hard drugs, alcoholism and other social vices ravaging the society.
Dr. Nanto Dami expressed worries that the alarming rate of drug abuse victims are increasing by day, hence the need for government to strategies a long lasting solution to help curtail the situation.
He lamented that taking drugs like tramadol, indian hem, codeine, and alcohol, are the major causes of criminality, banditry and destruction of public properties in the society.
The clergy man further charged parents to always checkmate their children and teach them the consequences of smoking weed, taking unprescribed drugs, alcoholism, among others, while they are still growing.
